Under the Sea

February 5, 2020 3 Comments

Today I played with the Under the Sea die sets from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  This collection is absolutely precious and has a cute sentiment set too.  I first created some gorgeous underwater distress oxide scenes (thanks to Sara Sherlock’s video on Under the Sea blending panel), then I just had to create these cards for my grand kids.  I am seeing them later this month so the “Sea you Soon” sentiment was perfect.  I will link the additional items in this collection in the description below.

Once I had several backgrounds made, I decided to start the dies.  I always like to cut more than just one set.  I usually cut several for now and save some for later.  On the crab and sea plants I used Copic Markers to color different images.  I used several different colors until I got the look I was okay with.  I just wanted to add a little shading.  Next time I think I will make the sea plants green and then add a little shading to that.  It will break up the yellow and orange colors of the crab and the coral.

A few things to note, the dies in this collection have embossed images on them so make sure to use your embossing pad when die cutting.  I used the glaze pen to add white to his eyes and mouth.  This black cardstock had the Elizabeth Craft double sided adhesive attached to the back.  This way you don’t have to apply glue to these tiny pieces.  I also used the glaze pen on the treasure chest.  There are already little rivets embossed on the edges but I added some glaze pen and then embossed silver on top of it.  It kind of gives it a rustic look.

Here is that great video I mention from Sara Sherlock.  She did an amazing job on the ocean scene. (viewable on my blog)

My version of an ocean scene.

These were such fun cards to make.  I just know my grand kids will love looking at all of the different pieces of the scene. I hope you give this collection a try.  I’d love to see your cards.  Thank you for stopping by.

You did an amazing job on that background, and the cards are adorable! Those little crabs have so much personality.
